History of NIT Rourkela

NIT Rourkela was founded as Regional Engineering College (REC) Rourkela in 1961, making it one of the first regional engineering colleges in India. The Government of India upgraded REC Rourkela to National Institute of Technology (NIT) status in 2002, granting it autonomy and Deemed University status.
